Density-functional study of interfacial properties of colloid-polymer mixtures
Article Abstract:
The interfacial properties of colloid-polymer mixtures within an effective one-component representation, where the polymer degree of freedom are traced out, leaving a fluid of colloidal particles interacting via polymer-induced depletion forces, are examined. The wall surface tension is found to be significantly larger for interacting than for ideal polymers, whereas the opposite trend is predicted for the fluid-fluid interfacial tension.

Trends in optical nonlinearity and thermal stability in electrooptic chromophores based upon the 3-(dicyanomethylene)-2,3-dihydrobenzothiophene-1, 1-dioxide acceptor
Article Abstract:
A series of new thiophene-bridged chromophores is synthesized based on the powerful heterocyclic acceptor 3-(dicyanomethylene)-2,3-dihydrobenzothiophene-1,1-dioxide. The dependence of the linear and second-order nonlinear optical properties and thermal stability of the species upon donor group and the bridging group is studied.
