Ab initio electron transport study of carbon and boron-nitrogen nanowires
Article Abstract:
The first-principles calculations on the electrical transport properties of two kinds of one-dimensional nanowires, a carbon nanowire (CNW) with alternating single and triple bonds and a boron-nitrogen nanowire (BNNW) with equidistant bonds, are reported. The effects of nanowire-electrode separation have shown that the equilibrium conductance has the same variation behavior as that of the projected density of states (PDOS) for CNW, while the localized molecular orbitals of BNNW result in its conductance varies differently from its PDOS.

FRET between CdSe quantum dots in lipid vesicles and water- and lipid-soluble dyes
Article Abstract:
FRET has been seen to a lipid-soluble dye and a water-soluble dye in which the vesicles have been suspended. The degree of energy transfer to each dye suggests that most of the quantum dots have been located deep within the lipid, as confirmed by electron microscopy of whole mounts and thin section of vesicles.
