Accessing the dynamics of end-grafted flexible polymer chains by atomic force-electrochemical microscopy. Theoretical modeling of the approach curves by the elastic bounded diffusion model and Monte Carlo simulations. Evidence for compression-induced lateral chain escape
Article Abstract:
Study is presented to demonstrate that the dynamics of nanometer-sized, linear polymer chains, end-tethered to a surface in a mushroom conformation, could be quantitatively probed by atomic force-electrochemical microscopy (AFM-SECM) at the scale of 100 molecules. At closer tip-substrate, separations, an unpredicted peak is observed in the experimental current approach curve, which is shown to find its origin in a compression-induced escape of the chain from within the narrowing tip-substrate gap.

Analyzing product inhibition and pH gradients in immobilized enzyme films as illustrated experimentally by immunologically bound glucose oxidase electrode coatings
Article Abstract:
Films with large concentrations of enzymes, therefore producing large catalytic currents when wired to an electrode surface, may show quite substantial inhibition by products. The inhibiting effects can be addressed theoretically through a diffusion-reaction model.
