Simultaneous deposition of W(VI) species and Ni(II) ions on the gamma-alumina surface: mechanistic model
Article Abstract:
The simultaneous deposition of W(VI) and Ni(II) ions on the the gamma-alumina surface by 'equilibrium deposition followed by filtration' method has been investigated at the pH range 4.2 to 6.2. The study seeks to determine the role of the Ni(II) ions in the formation of W(VI) ions on the alumina surface. Results indicated that the deposition of both types of ions results from the adsorption of W(sub x)O(sub y)(super z-) or Ni2+ ions at the inner Helmhotz plane. It was also observed that the W(VI) and Ni(II) ions mutually promoted their deposition at the examined pH range.

FTIR spectroscopic and density functional model cluster studies of methane adsorption on MgO
Article Abstract:
Methane adsorption on the MgO surface was investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in combination with density functional theory cluster model calculations. A variety of configurations for the adsorbed methane molecule was computed on both Lewis acid and basic surface centers found at the (100) planar surface and at the low-coordinated surface sites. It was shown that methane is weakly bound on the MgO surface and primarily at the low-coordinated ions.
