GERMANY: RESEARCH INTO SELF-CLEANING PLASTICS
Article Abstract:
Together with Freiburg-based Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) and other partners, German Marl-based Creavis GmbH is working on the development of self-cleaning plastic surfaces. The innovation is based on microstructures (produced by microreplication) that reduce the contact surface to contamination and on a hydrophobe surface. Marketable products are expected in 1-2 years. These could include traffic signs and facades. Creavis is part of the Degussa-Huls group.
