Effect of BSA binding on photophysical and photochemical properties of triarylmethane dyes
Article Abstract:
The effect of protein binding on the photophysical and photochemical characteristics of three triarylmethane dyes was investigated using a combined steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy. The dyes under study were the ethyl violet, crystal violet and malachite green. Experimental results showed that the binding sites of bovine serum albumin are highly efficient in preventing fast nonradiative relaxation processes that take place via rotational motion of the aromatic rings of the triarylmethanes.

Mechanism for the photochemical production of superoxide by quinacrine
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the mechanism for the photochemical production of superoxide by quinacrine. Transient absorption spectroscopy was utilized to carry out the analysis. Results indicated that the quantum efficiency for solvated electron formation at the excitation wavelength is in the rage of 0.20 to 0.30. Findings also provided a simple mechanism that accounts for the superoxide generation after ultraviolet excitation.
