Antibiotic-phospholipid interactions as studied by DSC and X-ray diffraction

Article Abstract:

The interactions of the antibiotic lasalocid as sodium salt with dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine multilayers were examined in aqueous buffer for antibiotic/lipid molar ratios ranging from 0 to 0.12. The study was conducted both by X-ray diffraction as a function of temperature and by differential enthalpimetry. The effect of the antibiotic on the structural arrangement of the phospholipid bilayers was found to be concentration dependent.

Structure of hydrous ruthenium oxides: implications for charge storage

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to characterize the structure of a mixed electron-proton conductor with specific capacitance called hydrous ruthenium oxide. Analysis of data gathered from thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy revealed that the local structures of the hydrous ruthenium oxides affect their electrochemical properties, particularly those that allow them to store energy.
