Chemistry at and near the surface of liquid sulfuric acid: a kinetic, thermodynamic, and mechanistic analysis of heterogeneous reactions of acetone
Article Abstract:
A description of the interactions of gas-phase acetone with liquid sulfuric acid solutions was presented. The preparation of the solutions were in the form of 0.05-0.10 microns thick films deposited on single-crystal metal substrates. Two types of measurements were reported: the infrared spectra of absorbed acetone and its reaction products and the time-dependent acetone uptake probability. Protonated acetone underwent a self-condensation/dehydration reaction in solutions containing more than 70 wt % or more H2SO4 to form mesityl oxide.

Regioselectivity of deuterium atom addition to olefin monolayers on Cu(100)
Article Abstract:
The regioselectivity of deuterium (D) atom addition to 1-butene and 1-pentene monolayers adsorbed on the (100) surface of copper at 100 K was explained. It was previously established that hydrogen atoms intruding from the gas phase were capable of reacting with monolayer olefin molecules adsorbed on metal surfaces. It was revealed that the 2-butyl groups were the predominant product generated and formed in a D addition to terminal carbons of surface-bound butene molecules.

Chemical reactions of organic molecules adsorbed at ice 1. chlorine addition to propene
Article Abstract:
The observation of a new heterogeneous transformations over ice, specifically the addition Cl2 to propene to create 1,2-dichloropropane, is reported. This work suggests possible mechanisms for reactions on the surfaces of ice and related materials.
