Coarse-grained transmembrane proteins: Hydrophobic matching, aggregation, and their effect on fusion

Article Abstract:

Coarse-grained molecular dynamics model is used in the simulations involving protein-lipid interactions. The results have shown that equilibrium of both water and lipid content is a requirement for spherical vesicles, whereas the simulations have shown that the level of aggregation does not only depend on hydrophobic mismatch, but also on protein shape and one of the proteins promotes fusion by inducing pore formation.

Proton-coupled electron transfer and tyrosine D of photosystem II

Article Abstract:

The mechanism of proton-coupled electron transfer is studied by performing solvent isotope exchange and measuring kinetic isotope effect on tyrosine D radical ([YD.sup..]) reduction. The modest acceleration in rate at high pL values is attributed to a small, pL-induced change in the distance between [YD.sup..] and proton acceptor ([Q.sub.A.sup.-]).

Size and shape of detergent micelles determined by small-angle x-ray scattering

Article Abstract:

The aggregation number and shape of micelles formed by nine detergents commonly used in the study of membrane proteins are analyzed. The results have described the determinants of micelle formation and are used as a starting point to correlate detergent properties with detergent-protein interactions.
