Desorption kinetics of methanol from Al2O3(0001) studied using temperature-programmed desorption and isothermal desorption
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the desorption of methanol from Al2O3(0001) in ultrahigh vacuum using temperature-programmed desorption and isothermal desorption. Temperature-programmed desorption traces were obtained by linearly ramping the temperature of the crystal at a rate of 5 K/s. Tandem turbomolecular pumps pumped the ultrahigh vacuum chamber utilized in the study. Results indicated that the high desorption activation barrier correlated with an interaction between the methanol and the surface.

Quantitative surface analysis of wet-chemically prepared Cu/SiO2 model catalysts
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize Cu/SiO2 model catalysts supporting nanometer-sized copper particles on a flat silica framework support using different surface science methods. The Omicron UHV-AFM was utilized to carry out atomic force microscopy measurements. Experimental results indicated that a reduction in hydrogen at 250 degrees C promoted the development of metallic and more rounded copper particles supporting an median height of 8 nm.
