EUROPE: GROWTH FORECAST FOR HERBICIDES
Article Abstract:
A study by Frost & Sullivan (report no 3255) predicts the European market for plant protection agents to grow 2.8% to US$ 7.9bn by year 2004. Towards the end of this period, demand is likely to be affected by the increase of genetically engineered resistant plants. In Germany, however, there is a lot of scepticism against genetic engineering. The time of steep growth rates in the plant protection agent market is past, as demand is shifting towards specific agents that are used in low concentrations.

Article Abstract:
A study by Frost & Sullivan predicts the demand for aromas and fragrances in Europe to grow 7.3% to US$ 1.41bn in 1999. By 2005 the growth rate will rise steadily to 9.7% and the market will reach US$ 2.32bn. There is a trend towards natural ingredients, especially in the premium category of cosmetics and toiletries. Essential oils and natural aroma molecules will play a key role, although synthetic aroma chemicals will continue to dominate in volume terms.
