Effect of acetate and propionate co-ions on the micellization of sodium dodecyl sulfate in water
Article Abstract:
The micellization of sodium dodecyl sulfate in aqueous sodium acetate and sodium propionate solutions was studied using the conductivity method. The values of critical micelle concentration (cmc), counterion binding constant and aggregation number were estimated from the conductivity data. Findings indicate that the ionic micelles contribute to electrical conductivity but not to ionic strength at surfactant solution. Electrostatic free energy seems to control the decrease in cmc with added electrolyte concentration.

Basic hydrolysis of m-nitrophenyl acetate in micellar media containing beta-cyclodextrins
Article Abstract:
The alkaline hydrolysis of m-nitrophenyl acetate was investigated in sodium dodecyl sulfate and tetradecyltrimethylammonium micellar systems consisting of beta-cyclodextrin. It was found that beta-cyclodextrin catalyzes the alkaline hydrolysis of m-nitrophenyl acetate through reaction of the complexed substrate with the hydroxyl group of the cyclodextrin. Results also showed that micelles exhibit the typical inhibitory and catalytic effects, respectively, on the alkaline hydrolysis of hydrophobic substrates.

Visible luminescence and surface properties of nanosized ZnO colloids prepared by hydrolyzing zinc acetate
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the visible luminescence and surface characteristics of nanosized ZnO colloids determined by the hydrolyzation of zinc acetate. The sample powders were prepared by drying ZnO colloids while infrared spectroscopic experiments were carried out using a Report-100 infrared spectrometer. Results indicated that the visible luminescence characteristics of ZnO particles correlated with their surface properties influenced by the concentration ratio of ZnAc/LiOH.
