Efficiency of hot carrier trapping by outer-sphere redox probes at quantum dot interfaces
Article Abstract:
The action spectra of the photosensitized oxidations of colloidal TiO2 provide clear insights as to the hot carrier effects on nanoparticles. Results reveal that prior donor binding to the surface is not required for the occurrence of hot carrier effects and that photocatalytic oxidations are not always influenced by OH-radicals, but can proceed by direct electron transfer. Moreover, the actual mechanisms of photocatalysis can be predicted from reversible redox potentials for the production of radical cations.

Broadened pulse-step change-isotopic sharp pulse analysis of the mechanism of methane partial oxidation to synthesis gas
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the mechanisms regulating the partial oxidation of methane to form synthesis gas and catalyzed by nickel oxide/silicon dioxide. Some of the mechanisms include the reaction of CH4 with O2 adsorbed on the catalyst over the unreduced catalyst and the surface reaction between CH4 and O2 over the reduced catalyst. The reaction over the unreduced catalyst was attributed to the Eley-Rideal mechanism, while the reduced catalyst reaction took place through the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism.
