Electrostatics and exploring the nature of water adsorption on the laponite sheets' surface

Article Abstract:

The adsorption mode involves electrostatic repulsion between the negative lone pairs on the water molecules and the ones on the surface oxygen atoms, for laponite surfaces, where there is a net charge. Minimizing the repulsion interactions, the water molecules bind to the surface in a perpendicular and tilted approach.

Comparative study of gas adsorption on amorphous ice: thermodynamic spectroscopic features of the adlayer and the surface

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of several gases is compared on amorphous ice using infrared spectroscopy and adsorption isotherm volumetry. The existence of stabilizing lateral interactions during the formation of the monolayer of the same order of magnitude for all the gases is evidenced.
