Enhanced mechanical stability of microtubules polymerized with a slowly hydrolyzable nucleolide analogue
Article Abstract:
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is used to investigate the local mechanical and structural properties of microtubules polymerized with guanylyl-[alpha]-[beta]-methylene diphosphonate (GMPCPP), a slowly hydrolyzable analogue of guanosine triphosphate. GMPCPP-polymerized microtubules have displayed a greater resistance to destruction by the AFM probe tip during imaging and deformation measurements.

Influence of spontaneous curvature and microtubules on the conformations of lipid vesicles
Article Abstract:
The influence of microtubules and the spontaneous curvature on vesicles with the reduced volume is investigated. The results show that the vesicles that have a long protrusion composed of beads do not obey Hook's law when they are stretched, but when the protrusion is cylindrical, the vesicle is stretched according to Hook's law.

The interface width of separated two-component lipid membranes
Article Abstract:
Two-component vesicles with coherent domains of the components, where the domains are separated by an interface are studied. Results reveal that the interface width is narrow when the difference between the spontaneous curvatures is small, and it grows instantly when the difference becomes large enough.
