Evolution of the interface and metal film morphology in the vapor deposition of Ti on hexadecanethiolate hydrocarbon monolayers on Au
Article Abstract:
The combination of four in situ surface analysis techniques are used to study the nature of the evolving interface chemistry and metal morphology arising from Ti vapor deposition onto the surface of a CH3(CH2)(sub 15)S/Au{111} self-assembled monolayer (SAM) at ambient temperature. The results show that for applications such as molecular device contacts the use of Ti may be highly problematic, suffering from both a highly nonuniform contact area and the presence of extensive inorganic products such as nonstoichiometric carbides and hydrides.

Molecular dynamics simulation study of molecular ejection mechanisms: keV particle bombardment of C6H6/Ag(111)
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine molecular ejection mechanisms using molecular dynamics simulation. The objective is to gain microscopic insight into the factors that result in molecular ejection after ion bombardment of an organic overlayer on a metal surface using a model of benzene (C6H6) adsorbed on Ag(111). Results indicate that the off-normal ejection is caused by single collisions between C6H6 molecules and substrate Ag atoms.

Femtosecond photoionization of ion beam desorbed aliphatic and aromatic amino acids: fragmentation via alpha-cleavage reactions
Article Abstract:
Research is presented describing the use of femtosecond laser pulses at 195 and 260mn to photonize ion beam desorbed amino acids. Results suggest that the amino acids are desorbed and ionized intact and then fragment via radical cleavage reactions.
