Evidence for H2O2 generation during the TiO2-assisted photodegradation of dyes in aqueous dispersions under visible light illumination
Article Abstract:
Photodegradation of dyes in the presence of TiO2 particles under air-equilibrated controlled conditions and visible light illumination have been found to induce the generation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). H2O2 formed in the process of dye photodegration have been labeled as perfidous intermediate species. It was also observed that the concentration of H2O2 depends on the coverage of the substrates and/or intermediates on the TiO2 surface and the photodegradation rate of the dye.

Architecture and surface properties of monomolecular films of a cyanine dye and their light-induced modification
Article Abstract:
The deposition of a water-insoluble monomolecular layers of cyanine dye onto negatively charged substrates such as glass, mica or thin film poly(acrylic acid) (PA) is investigated. It is shown that the selected substrate affects the architecture of the dye layers. A submonolayer coverage of the monomeric dye is formed in PA while a complex layer structure of J-aggregated dye molecules is created on mica.

Photodegradation processes of cyanine dyes in the film state induced by singlet molecular oxygen
Article Abstract:
Photodegradation processes of carbocyanine dyes spin-coated on a polycarbonate plate are studied by steady-state photolysis and near-IR emission spectroscopy. The efficiency of the whole photodegradation caused by molecular oxygen directly and/or indirectly was found to strongly depend on both substituents on the 1 and 1' positions and the counterion.
