Fluorescence of retinal Schiff base in alcohols
Article Abstract:
The fluorescence of Schiff base of retinal (SBR) in different alcohols was investigated. Results showed that the H-bonded forms of SBR (H-SBR) possess specific photophysical properties that are distinct from those of SBR in aprotic solvents and have a relatively long-lived S1 state, which is longer than that of SBR and protonated-SBR. Moreover, the H-SBR S1 state was found to decay due to the excited-state proton transfer from the alcohol to SBR.

Interfacial water surface at as-prepared and UV-induced hydrophilic TiO2 surfaces studied by sum frequency generation spectroscopy and quartz crystal microbalance
Article Abstract:
The interfacial water surfaces at surfaces of an as-prepared TiO2 and of the TiO2 after UV irradiation are investigated by sum frequency generation spectroscopy and quartz crystal microbalance. It is observed that UV illumination led to an increase in the amount not only of adsorbed water as a whole but also of the ordered water on the TiO2 surface.
