GERMANY: ENKA TO CLOSE FIBRE PLANT
Article Abstract:
As a result of slack demand for cellulose filament yarn, Enka GmbH & Co KG is to close down its factory in Kelsterbach, Germany. Production at the plant that employs 570 staff was suspended in August 1999. Already in 1999 the subsidiary of Acordis axed 300 jobs in Kelsterbach and at its Ede plant in the Netherlands.

Enka GmbH & Co KG has reached an agreement with the works council about the reduction of workforce by almost 300 at the plant in Kelsterbach. The agreement involves also productive investments. Thus the subsidiary of Akzo Nobel decided against closing the Kelsterbach facility.
