Article Abstract:

The various industry characteristics that influence the American chemical industry, such as its, cyclical nature, aggregate capital spending, energy consumption, distribution methods and government regulation, are discussed. An analysis on different kinds of basic chemicals, that includes organic, inorganic and paints and coatings, their demand, annual capacity and usage, are also statistically discussed.

The nature of the chemical industry, its mode of functioning is discussed. Capital investments in this industry are very high, as addition of a new facility would cost several millions. The distribution methods play a key role in this industry. An analysis of the two broad categories of chemicals, inorganic chemicals and specialty chemicals and their subcategories is also discussed.
