Hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions in the adsorption of fibronectin at maleic acid copolymer films
Article Abstract:
Adsorption and desorption of fibronectin (FN) were investigated at thin films of alternating maleic acid copolymers with octadecene (POMA) and with propene (PPMA). The results reveal that the interfacial mode of adsorbed FN depends on the predominant interactions and large amounts of FN were tightly bound to POMA by hydrophobic interactions whereas FN adsorbed on PPMA was concluded to attain an unfolded structure allowing for the electrostatic matching of positively charged residues on FN with the maleic acid groups.

Enhancement of topographic images obtained in liquid media by atomic force microscopy
Article Abstract:
A modified squeeze-drag superposition model for detailed elucidation of image distortion is described and an enhancement test for the topographic image of a grating sample obtained in 2-propanol media as a proof-of-model is conducted. The open liquid-cell system used in the study guaranteed the easy exchange and no-overflow of the solution as compared to closed or solution-dropped liquid-cell atomic force microscope (AFM).

One-dimensional random lasing in a single organic nanofiber
Article Abstract:
The influence of fiber morphology on the light propagation properties was studied using optical and atomic force microscopy. The interpretation of the results assisted by model calculations of propagation of coherent light in 1-D random media suggested that organic nanofibers have potential for photonics and sensing applications at the nanoscale.
