Boosted by the economic recovery, keen building renovation activity and increased export demand, the Swedish paint industry saw an almost 4% increase in production to SEK 5.6bn in 1997. Both exports and imports grew 8% to SEK 3bn and to SEK 3.5bn, respectively. Domestic demand increased 4% to SEK 6.1bn. The trade association Sveriges F rgfabrikanters F rening (www.ktf.se/sveff) expects the same development to continue in 1998.

GERMANY: BLEAK OUTLOOK FOR COATINGS
Article Abstract:
The industry federation expects no more than stagnation on the German paint and varnish market in 1999. However, there are signs of a recovery in the construction market. In 1998 the industry's production increased 0.7% to 2mn tonnes in volume and 0.3% to DM 4.45bn in value. Exports increased 13.2%.
