Intramolecular excitonic dimers in protease substrates: modification of the backbone moiety to probe the H-dimer structure

Article Abstract:

The influence of the peptide backbone on H-dimer formation was investigated by varying the dye linker moieties of a series of homodoubly labeled NorFES protease substrate derivatives through the addition of one or two 6-aminohexanoic acids to the peptide backbone. A modified NorFES substrate was synthesized with different geometric dye isomers to examine the dye-dye orientation. The length and conformation of the peptide plus linker and the stereochemistry of dye-peptide conjugation were found to influence the spectral properties of intramolecular H-dimerization.

Estimating the hydration enthalpies of neutral alkali metal atoms

Article Abstract:

A thermodynamic cycle is proposed from which the hydration enthalpies of the neutral metal atoms could be estimated using existing data on the ionization energies of alkali metal atoms in small clusters of water. Results show that application of the thermodynamic cycle to neutral alkali metal atoms solvated in ammonia yields solvation enthalpies that are significantly lower than those obtained for water.

Enthalpies of transfer of the -CH2- moiety into aqueous amide solvent systems; values from n-Alcohol solutes

Article Abstract:

The enthalpies of solution of the n-alcohols and ethanol to hexanol are computed in aqueous mixtures of formamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide and N-methylpyrrolidinone. The result obtained is compared to the data of aqueous alcohol solvent systems.
