Ionic liquid crystal precursors for inorganic particles: Phase diagram and thermal properties of a CuCl nanoplatelet precursor

Article Abstract:

The full ionic liquid crystal precursor (ILCP) and the thermal behavior from a mixing ratio of 1/0 ( that is pure bis(dodecylpyridinium)tetrachlorocuprate) to 0/1 (that is 6-O-palmitoyl ascorbic acid) is presented. It is shown that Cu050, the original ILCP used for CuCl platelet formation, exhibits mesomorphism but that all ILCPs composed of bis(dodecylpyridinium)tetrachlorocuprate and 6-O-palmitoyl ascorbic acid show the same general crystalline-smectic LC-isotropic phase behavior.

Thermal and conductometric investigations and phase diagram of the Rb2S2O7-V2O5 system

Article Abstract:

The phase diagram of the Rb2S2O7-V2O5 system is investigated. Results show that the phase diagram demonstrates a local maximum when mole fraction, X(sub V2O5) = 0.33. Two eutectics are observed at X(sub V2O5) = 0.175 and X(sub V2O5) = 0.43 at fusion temperatures of 348 degrees Centigrade and 397 degrees Centigrade, respectively. Increasing X(sub V2O5) in the melt also decreases the conductivity of the Rb2S2O7-V2O5 system.

Electron tomography of nanoparticle catalysts on porous supports: a technique based on Rutherford scattering

Article Abstract:

A new variant of three-dimensional (3D) electron microscopy, Z-contrast tomography, in which, by use of a field-emission gun scanning transmission electron microscope equipped with a high-angle annular dark-field detector, images are formed by Rutherford scattered electrons is reported. This model is ideal for the visualization and analysis of nanoparticle catalysts on porous supports.
