Island formation
Article Abstract:
Experiments were performed to investigate the mechanisms behind island growth during the early stages of thin film development in a host lattice. Three nucleation mechanisms were analyzed. The stochastic consequences of various sequences for a nucleation pattern or island morphology on a finite, planar array were explored. The findings identified the morphology generated from a row filling mechanism on a lattice with triangular geometry as the ideal entropy process for island growth.

Electron transport in nanoparticulate ZnO films
Article Abstract:
Research is presented using porous nanocrystalline ZnO as an example to show how transistor-like electrode geometry can directly determine electron mobility in nanoparticulate thin film. The importance of surface chemistry of the particles and the film heterogeneity and porosity is highlighted.

In situ investigations of polyelectrolyte film formation by second harmonic generation
Article Abstract:
The sequential adsorption of anionic and cationic polyelectrolytes on a charged silica surface can be measured by assessing the time dependence of the second harmonic generation signal. The key source of the second harmonic signal is the ordered water layer.
