Melvin P. Klein: a short personal and scientific biography
Article Abstract:
Mel Klein dedicated his life to the study of physical optics and electromagnetic theory. He invented the method of digital signal averaging for sensitivity enhancement with G.W. Barton, Jr. He was one of the pioneers who applied synchrotron radiation and extended X-ray absorption fine structure to the problem of determining the function and structure paradigm to the Mn cluster. He also developed the method of fluorescence detection of extended X-ray absorption fine structure in the study of dilute Mn in the oxygen-evolving complex.

Kenneth Sauer: a short personal and scientific biography
Article Abstract:
Kenneth Sauer devoted his early life to the study of small-molecule gas-phase photochemistry. He applied his photochemical interests to the fundamental photoprocesses that involved the conversion of light energy, water and CO2 into biomolecules and O2 in photosynthesis. He also studied pigment proteins containing phycolibins and chlorophylls. He was given the Research Award of the American Society for Photobiology in 1993.
