Metal ionchromic effects of conjugated polymers: Effects of the rigidity of molecular recognition sites on metal ion sensing

Article Abstract:

The ion sensing properties of a conjugated polymer composed of a rigidly planar unit 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) (P2), having stronger co-ordination ability with metal ions compared with 2,2'-bipyridine as molecular recognition sites is examined. A significant improvement in the sensing activity of a phen-based polymer is observed compared with that of a by-based polymer.

Nature of zinc(II)-induced ionochromic effect of bipyridine-containing conjugated polymers: An electrostatic interaction mechanism

Article Abstract:

An electrostatic interaction mechanism is proposed to reveal the nature of the zinc(II)-ion-induced ionochromic effect of bipyridine (bpy)-containing pi-conjugated polymers. The results have shown that the zinc(II)-induced ionochromic effect is attributed to the electrostatic interaction between the zinc(II) ion and the polymer.

Zinc(II)-induced color-tunable fluorescence emission in the pi-conjugated polymers composed of the bipyridine unit: A way to get white-light emission

Article Abstract:

A study was carried out to synthesize a series of fluorene and bipyridine (bpy) copolymers and to investigate their optical properties in the presence of zinc(II). The counteranions of zinc(II) ion are found to influence the optical properties of copolymers greatly.
