Micro-Raman spectroscopy of meso-tetrakis(p-sulfonatophenyl)porphine at electrode surfaces
Article Abstract:
The Raman spectra of meso-tetrakis(p-sulfonatophenyl)porphine (TSPP) adsorbed onto smooth and roughened Ag electrodes has been determined using micro-Raman spectroscopy. This methodology is used in detecting surface and homogeneous phase scattering. It also identifies the scattering spectra of the porphyrin in the two environments. Results show that the pH level of TSPP determines its protonation and aggregation on an electrode surface. However, the formation of the diacid may be due to the electrochemical reduction of water and not from the release of hydrogen from a porphyrin.

Novel chemical sensor for cyanides: Boron-doped carbon nanotubes
Article Abstract:
Boron-doped (B-doped) single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations as sensors models to detect the presence of cyanides, such as hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and cyanogen chloride (CNCl). The properties of the B-doped SWCNTs have presented dramatic changes after the absorption of cyanide molecules and hence B-doped SWCNTs can serve as good sensors for detecting the presence of cyanide molecules.
