Mobility in maltose-water glasses studied with 1H NMR
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the molecular mobility of the carbohydrate protons and water in maltose samples as a function of water content and temperature using 1H NMR. The mobility of the water molecules is determined by analyzing the relaxation behavior of the mobile protons. Results indicate that a stable hydrogen-bond network between the sugar molecules is formed at the glass transition temperature that immobilizes the hydroxyl groups. Since water disrupts the network, it leads to a higher mobility of the hydroxyl protons of maltose.

The effect of pressure on the conformation of two sets of m-phenylene ethyuylene oligomers in PMMA and PtBMA
Article Abstract:
The effect of pressure on the emission characteristics of two sets of m-phenylene ethynylene oligomers in solid poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polytertbutylmethacrylate (PtBMA) is studied. Except for the shortest oligomers, they exist in folded form at 1 atm, but with increasing pressure they unfolded.
