Multidisciplinary physicochemical analysis of oligothiophenes end-capped by nitriles: Electrochemistry, UV-Vis-Near-IR, IR and, Raman spectroscopies and quantum chemistry

Article Abstract:

A series of alpha,omega-dicyano end-capped oligothiophenes NC(C4H2S)nCN ranging in length from the dimer to the hexamer (n = 2-6), in the neutral state as pure solids, by means of Fourier transform IR and Fourier transform Raman (FT-Raman) spectroscopes were investigated. The cyclic voltammetry analysis of the compounds in dichloromethane reveals that most of them show two oxidation and two reduction waves, associated with the injection of either positive or negative charges into the pi-conjugated system.

Alternated quinoid/aromatic units in terthiophenes building blocks for electroactive narrow band gap polymers. Extended spectroscopic, solid state, electrochemical, and theoretical study

Article Abstract:

The synthesis of three novel narrow HOMO-LUMO gap heterocyclic mixed trimers containing a o-quinoid electro-acceptor thienopyrazine central moeity endowed by two donor 3,4-ethylenedioxy-2-thienyl (EDOT) units and with different patterns of hexyl functionalization is reported. It is concluded that these trimers are potential candidates for obtaining polymers with significant low energy gap combining electroactivity.

A Raman and computational study of two dithienyl naphthodithiophenes: synthesis and characterization of new polymers showing low band gap optical and electroactive features

Article Abstract:

A combination of Raman spectroscopes, electrochemical and quantum chemistry techniques is used to study the two polymers of isomeric dithienyl naphthodithiophenes. The results indicate that the two polymers are strong amphoters that shows very stable oxidation and reduction waves at relatively low potentials at the same time that they behave as low band gap polymers.
