Photodegradation of polyfluorene and fluorene oligomers with alkyl and aromatic disubstitutions

Article Abstract:

The degradation of polyfluorenes (PFs) and fluorene oligomers with alkyl and aromatic substitutions under ultraviolet (UV)-light irradiation is studied. The experiments have concluded that the degradation of fluorene is a radical chain process propagated by alkyl side chains and the different stability between alkyl and aromatic substitution can be well described.

Study on the formation of ketonic defects in the thermal degradation of ladder-type poly(p-phenylenes) by vibrational spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A detailed report is presented on the formation of the ketonic defects in Me-LPF by vibrational spectroscopy, which is an important tool for investigating polymer degradation. The thermal degradation is investigated in the air by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy of a ladder type copolymer containing fluorine units in the backbone (Me-LPF).

Role of nonemissive quenchers for the green emission in polyfluorene

Article Abstract:

The role of nonemissive quenchers such as alkyl ketones for the low-energy emission in polyfluorenes is examined. The results have shown that strong green emission in degraded polyfluorene is caused by fluorenone as well as by nonemissive quenchers for their effectively quenching bulk emission.
