Promoting effect of Ce0(sub 2) in combustion synthesized Pt/CeO(sub 2) catalyst for CO oxidation

Article Abstract:

A 1 percent Pt/CeO(sub 2) catalyst prepared by the solution combustion method shows a higher catalytic activity for CO oxidation by O2 compared to Pt metal particles. Structural studies show that Pt ions in the catalyst are substituted for Ce(super 4+) ions in the form of Ce(sub 1-x)Pt(sub x)O(sub 2-delta), creating oxide ion vacancies leading to a strong Pt(super 2+)-CeO(sub 2) interaction that is responsible for higher catalytic activity.

Kinetic Monte Carlo study of submonolayer heteroepitaxial growth comparing Cu/Ni and Pt/Ni on Ni(100)

Article Abstract:

The surface patterns formed during submonolayer Cu/Ni and Pt/Ni heteroepitaxy upon a Ni(100) substrate is investigated by kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulations. The two-dimensional (2D) KMC simulations are based upon rate constants for a complete nearest-neighbor set of 729 uncorrelated Cu or Pt atoms and/or Ni site-to-site hopping mobilities.

XPS and XASF Pt L(sub 2,3)-edge studies of dispersed metallic Pt and PtSn clusters of SiO(sub 2) obtained by organometallic synthesis: structural and electronic characteristics

Article Abstract:

A well-defined silica-supported Pt and PtSn catalysts are prepared by surface organometallic reactions and are characterized by EXAFS-XANES at the Pt L(sub 2,3) edge and XPS of the Pt 4f and Sn 3d levels is reported. These catalysts are tested in the catalytic hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde in the liquid phase.
