Article Abstract:
In order to be closer to its customers, German H ls subsidiary R hm GmbH, Darmstadt founded a subsidiary in the USA, R hm America Inc. R hm wants to strengthen its North American market position for lacquer raw materials and methacrylate monomers and polymers (e.g. functional pill coatings, carrier polymers to immobilise enzymes). Retroactively from 01 Jan 1998, R hm took over all of the 50:50 joint venture Rohm&Haas, which produces lubricant additives on the basis of methacrylates. The business with polymethylmethacrylate (Plexiglas, Acrylate), bulk MMA and intermediate products is handled by Cyro Industries of Rockaway, New Jersey, which also belongs to the R hm group. The US brand rights for Plexiglas, including Rohm&Haas' activities in this area, were recently sold to Elf Atochem SA of France. *
