Reorientation of the retinylidene chromophore in the K, L, and M intermediates of bacteriorhodopsin from time-resolved linear dichroism: resolving kinetically and spectrally overlapping intermediates of chromoproteins
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the change in orientation of the electronic transition dipole moment with regards to the membrane normal in the K, L, and M intermediates of bacteriorhodopsin via transient linear dichroism. Absorbance changes were calculated as a function of wavelength, time and angle between the orientation axis and polarizer direction which resulted in a highly accurate determination of the transient changes in isotropic, absorbance, linear dichroism and linear birefringence.

Excited carrier dynamics of alpha-[Cr.sub.2][O.sub.3]/alpha-[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3] core-shell nanostructures
Article Abstract:
The alpha-[Cr.sub.2][O.sub.3]/[alpha-[Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3] core-shell polycrystalline nanostructures are synthesized by using alpha-[Cr.sub.2][O.sub.3] nanoparticles as seed crystals during aqueous nucleation. The femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy results have shown the that carrier lifetimes decay within a few picoseconds regardless of sample, which is due to fast recombination or trapping of carriers to defects and iron d-states.
