GERMANY: DB CARGO SERVICE FOR CHEMICAL INDUSTRY
Article Abstract:
At the beginning of year 2000 Deutsche Bahn's DB Cargo AG division is to introduce Chem-Cargo to provide transport and logistics services to the chemical industry. The chemical industry centres of Germany will be linked by scheduled night trains with tank wagons and ISO containers. DB Cargo welcomes other logistics service providers as systems partners. In 1998 DB Cargo AG carried 46mn tonnes of chemicals, of which a major part consisted of hazardous goods. The share of combined rail-road transport is increasing.

GERMANY: NEW NUTRITION SUPPLEMENT BY BASF
Article Abstract:
BASF AG of Ludwigshafen, Germany, has launched a new lycopin-based nutrition supplement, the microcapsulated carotenoid Lyco Vit. A representative of BASF Health & Nutrition AS of Ballerup, Denmark, refers to research that suggests that lycopin can be effective in the prevention of cancer and myocardial infarction. BASF estimates the world market for lycopin at US$ 6mn-8mn. Hoffmann-La Roche AG is the only producer of natural-identical lycopin.
