Small- angle scattering study of mesoscopic structures in charged gel and their evolution on dehydration
Article Abstract:
The property changes induced in a gel by dehydration are explored and another mechanism to produce a shrunken gel is described. The Small- angle X-ray (SAXS) experiments reveal that, depending upon the [NIPA]/[SA] ratio, the dehydrated N-isopropylacrylamide-sodium acrylate (NIPA)- SA gel shows two mesoscopic structures, one consists of randomly distributed SA- rich islands in NIPA matrix, while the other is a microphase- separated structure, composed of NIPA- rich and SA-rich domains.

Theoretical study of addition reactions of heavy carbenes to carbon and boron nitride nanotubes
Article Abstract:
Calculations using density functional theory were carried out of a heavy carbene to a single-walled carbon (SWCNT) and boron nitride nanotubes (SWBNNT) in an effort to gain insight into activation energies and reaction enthalpies of chemical functionalization of carbon and boron nitride nanotubes. The theoretical observations indicated that all the SWCNT and SWBNNT cycloadducts favor opened rather than closed three-membered ring structures.

Theoretical study of germaneselone HXGe=Se (X = H and F): Thermodynamic and kinetic stability
Article Abstract:
The unimolecular reactions of HXGe=Se (X = H and F) are investigated and compared with those of HXC=Se, by means of ab initio calculations. The findings suggest that HXGe=Se is kinetically stable with respect to the unimolecular reactions.
