Spin trapping by 5,5-dimethylpyrroline-N-oxide in Fenton media in the presence of Nafion perfluorinated membranes: Limitations and potential
Article Abstract:
Spin trapping by 5,5-dimethylpyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO) is used for the detection of radicals in Fenton media in the presence and absence of Nafion perfluorinated ionomers. The formation and trapping of solvent-derived free radicals in ethanol and in methanol is one of the major limitations of DMPO as a spin trap for radical identification in Fenton media, but for water as solvent, the method can be useful when the polymer is treated at higher than ambient temperatures.

Influence of perfluorinated compounds on the properties of model lipid membranes
Article Abstract:
Model membranes-lipid monolayers and bilayers are used for investigating the effect of selected perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) or perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), on the structure and organization of lipid membranes. The results have indicated a slow migration of PFCs from the surrounding water phase into 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) and 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC) bilayers.

Solvent-Driven formation of bolaamphiphilic vesicles
Article Abstract:
A spontaneous bending of single-layer bolaamphiphilies resulting from the frustration due to the competition between core-core and tail-solvent interactions is presented. It is found that spherical vesicles are stable under rather general assumptions on these interactions described within the Flory-Huggins theory.
