Stabilization of Si photoanodes in aqueous electrolytes through surface alkylation
Article Abstract:
The -CnH2n+1 functionality was introduced onto (111)-oriented n-type Si single crystals by a two-step chlorination/alkylation method to study the stabilization of Si photoanodes in aqueous media. H-terminated Si photoanodes were found to be unstable when in contact with an aqueous 0.35 M K4Fe(CN)6 to 0.05 M K3Fe(CN)6 electrolyte during illumination. They also exhibited low open-circuit voltages and current density deterioration due to anodic oxidation. However, Si surfaces functionalized with -CH3 and -C2H5 groups were found to be stable and exhibit great electrochemical properties when used as photoelectrodes.

Pulse-gradient spin-echo 1H, 7Li, and 19F NMR diffusion and ionic conductivity measurements of 14 organic electrolytes containing LiN(SO2CF3)2
Article Abstract:
The pulse-gradient spin-echo nuclear magnetic resonance measurement of the self-diffusion coefficients of the anion, lithium ion and solvent in lithium bis(trifluromethanesulfonyl)imide solvent systems was performed to study the 14 different organic solvents commonly used as electrolytes in lithium batteries. Results showed that the solvents can be classified into three groups. The first consists of cyclic carbonates and esters. The second consists of triglyme, diglyme and dimethoxyethane. The last includes a linear carbonate, cyclic ethers and diethoxyehtane.
