Subgel studies of dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine bilayers
Article Abstract:
New experimental data that characterize the subtransition of dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) and the kinetics and dynamics of the formation of the subgel phase when formed by plane supercooling versus the T-Jump protocol first implemented by Tristram-Nagle et al. for dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) are presented. The data revealed that there is the coexistence of large domains of subgel in the gel phase during the phase transformation, thus proving the nucleation-growth hypothesis for the mechanism of subgel formation.

Determination of structural parameters and hydration of unilamellar POPC/C12E4 vesicles at high water excess from neutrons scattering curves using a novel method of evaluation
Article Abstract:
A novel method of determining the lipid bilayers thickness and the thickness of the water-free hydrophobic core of unilamellar vesicles by small angle neutron scattering (SANS) is proposed. The model yields the internal geometry, the surface requirements of the molecules, the extension of the hydrophilic parts of the molecules into the water subphase and simultaneously the hydration of unilamellar vesicles.

Dissipation-enhanced quartz crystal microbalance studies on the excremental parameters controlling the formation of supported lipid bilayers
Article Abstract:
A study on the investigation of the transformation of spherically closed lipid bilayers to supported lipid bilayers in aqueous media in contact with SiO2 surfaces was conducted. The results revealed that the mobile lipids in the vesicles membrane processes including the rupture, and fusion while the immobile lipids render the processes more difficult.
