Sulfur the archetypal catalyst poison? The sulfur-induced promotion of the bonding of unsaturated hydrocarbons on Cu(111)
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that the presence of preadsorbed atomic sulfur promotes the bonding of cyclic unsaturated hydrocarbons to Cu(111) is presented using a combination of temperature-programmed desorption and UV photoelectron spectroscopy. The stabilizing effects of preadsorbed sulfur, through electronic effects, observed on Cu(111) contrast quite significantly with previous results on Pt(111).

Role of [O.sub.2] in inducing intensive fluctuations of surface-enhanced Raman scattering spectra
Article Abstract:
Confocal Raman microscopic measurements are performed on silver electrodes covered with hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H). The intensive surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) fluctuations could be observed for a a-C:H/Ag samples immersed in the deoxygenated electrolyte after applying a negative potential pulse to the silver electrode.
