Sum-frequency spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the structure of monolayers of the cationic surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium p-tosylate at the surface of the water by sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy. The Biorad FTS-40 spectrometer was utilized to determine the infrared spectrum of a solution of p-tosylate in D2O. Experimental results indicated little change in the number of gauche defects during the binding of p-tosylate to the monolayer.

Liquid interfaces: a study of sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
Sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy is a useful tool in studying liquid interfaces. Most of the studies carried out using the method have focused on vibrational spectroscopy in the CH and OH stretch ranges. The emergence of the method as a surface analytical tool would correlate to its applications to more complex liquid interfaces, including uses in biological systems and in bioscience.
