The decamethylferrocenium/decamethylferrocene redox couple: a superior redox standard to the ferrocenium/ferrocene redox couple for studying solvent effects on the thermodynamics of electron transfer
Article Abstract:
The effects of the solvent on the differences in the formal redox potentials of the ferrocenium/ferrocene, 1,2,3,4,5-pentamethylferrocenium/1,2,3,4,5-pentamethylferrocene and decamethylferrocenium/decamethylferrocene couples were investigated. The solvent dependencies of the reaction entropies of electron transfer and the merits of each couple as a redox standard for studying solvent effects on the thermodynamics of electron transfer were also analyzed. Results showed that the decamethylferrocenium/decamethylferrocene couple has a superior redox standard than the other two couples.

Dependence of the electrochemical behavior of poly(N-phenylpyrrole) films on the type of anion and solvent used in the electropolymerization
Article Abstract:
The cyclic electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance technique was used to study the solvent transport and the electrochemical impedance technique was used to examine the ionic resistance during the redox reaction of poly(N-phenylpyrrole) films in propylene carbonate and acetonitrile solutions. Results showed that the amount and direction of solvent transport and the ionic resistance depend on the type of dopant anion and solvent used in the electropolymerization. The PF6- and ClO4 were the dopants used in the solvents.
