Transport of probe ions in solutions of biological polyelectrolytes
Article Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to examine probe ion transport in biological polyelectrolyte solutions in mercury film and platinum disc microelectrodes. Sodium or potassium salts of anionic polysaccharides were examined. Electrostatic interaction with polysaccharide anions reduced the diffusion coefficients of the probe ions. Meanwhile, predictions of probe ion transport using Manning's linear charge model and Poisson-Boltzmann's cylindrical cell model were compared. It was observed that Manning's model was more applicable in interpreting probe ion transport.

Thermodynamics of protein interactions with urea and guanidinium hydrochloride
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the use of the linear extrapolation model (LEM) analysis in characterizing the thermodynamics of protein interactions with urea and guanidinium hydrochloride. Results indicate that LEM analysis of the urea-induced denaturation provides good estimates fo the Gibbs energy stabilization. However, LEM analysis does not provide reasonable stability estimates for guanidinium hydrochloride (GdmCl)-induced unfolding since it is affected by the electrolyte nature of GdmCl.
