US: GROWTH FOR ORGANIC PIGMENTS

Article Abstract:

A study by The Freedonia Group predicts the US market for dyes and organic pigments to grow at an annual rate of 3.3% to reach US$ 2.89bn in year 2003. In the 1989-98 period the growth rate was 2.8%. In the organic pigments segment, the growth rate is forecast at 6%, with sales rising to US$ 1.7bn by 2003. The share of textiles of the consumption of dyes and organic pigments is expected to fall from US$ 737mn to US$ 697mn (down 1.1% per year), while that of printing inks is likely to rise from US$ 705mn to US$ 924mn (up 5.6%), plastics from US$ 332mn to US$ 430mn (up 5.3%), and paints and varnishes from US$ 297mn to US$ 414mn (up 6.9%).

US: PIGMENTS USED BY PAINT INDUSTRY

Article Abstract:

The US paints and varnishes industry consumes about 50,000 tonnes of metal pigments annually. Zinc dust accounts for about two-thirds of the total, aluminium flakes about 14,500 tonnes, pearly lustre pigments 1,350 tonnes and bronze powder 450 tonnes.

WORLD: FORECAST FOR DYES, ORGANIC PIGMENTS

A study by The Freedonia Group predicts the demand for dyes and organic pigments worldwide to grow at an annual rate of 5% to reach US$ 14.2bn by 2004. Printing inks and paints and colours will continue to account for 80% of demand.
