Bar coding fixed asset inventories
Article Abstract:
Usage of bar coding technology for fixed asset physical inventories is increasing due to its ability to gather and organize large amounts of data in a fast, precise and cost-effective manner. This technology involves the automatic recording of data by scanning a bar code label. These data are filed in a movable bar code reader that can be downloaded and interfaced with other systems. It has been shown to increase efficiency, enhance data quality, ease the reconciliation process and boost the morale of the counters. Implementation of a bar code inventory requires planning which may last between four to 12 weeks. Five principal steps are identified in the planning process: resolution of issues, ordering of tags, identifying the proper reconciliation approach, choosing the hardware seller and writing the software. Bar coding is highly recommended to companies with over 1,000 assets.

When does the Michaelis-Menten equation hold for fluctuating enzymes?
Article Abstract:
A theoretical formalism is developed to describe the kinetics of a fluctuating enzyme that incorporates the condition of detailed balance for substrate binding and dissociation. Focus is laid on the dependence of the steady-state rate of product formation on the substrate concentration, which could be influenced by the time scale and amplitude of enzyme fluctuations.
