Direct reversal of DNA alkylation damage
Article Abstract:
The DNA damage caused by intracellular and extracellular chemicals, called alkylating agents, are highly mutagenic or cytotoxic. Direct DNA repair proteins like the N-terminal domain of the Escherichia coli Ada protein and the AlkB family protein are involved in direct alkylation DNA damage repair by a stoichiometric transfer of the alkyl group and a catalytic oxidation of the adduct.

Biosynthesis and mode of action of lantibiotics
Article Abstract:
Lantibiotics are peptide-derived antimicrobial agents that are ribosomally synthesized and posttranslationally modified to their biologically active forms and they are produced by a large number of Gram-positive bacteria. The Vitrio engineering of the lantibiotic biosynthetic processes has several conceptual advantages over genetic protein engineering of lantibiotics.
