Chiroptical properties of the benzene chromophore. A mehod for the determination of the absolution configurations of benzene compounds by application of the benzene sector and benzene chirality rules
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize a benzene sector rule that correlates the absolute configuration of a chiral center contiguous to or detached by a methylene group from an unsubstituted benzene ring. The circular dichroism spectra of chiral perhydrobenzocycloalkenes supporting planar rings was also determined in the study. Results indicated that absolute configurations can be obtained with the benzene sector and benzene chirality rules.

Photoalignment of liquid-crystal systems
Article Abstract:
Liquid crystals are supramolecular assemblies and their photochromism is mediated by the phototriggered amplification of the photooptical effect due to changes in the alignment of liquid crystal molecules. The present review describes two types of photoalignable liquid crystal systems in relation to their photochromic behavior.
