Dynamical solvent effects on activated electron-transfer reactions: principles, pitfalls, and progress
Article Abstract:
The presence of solvent-dependent electron-transfer (ET) barrier heights causes the dynamical solvent properties that affect ET reaction rates. High-frequency dispersions, solvent molecularity, reactant vibrational distortions and nonadiabatic transitions determine the form and degree of solvent effects on ET reactions. Moreover, rapid overdamped relaxations, intramolecular reactants and temperature influence either barrier height properties or solvent dynamics to eventually affect ET rates.

Photochemistry on nonreactive and reactive (semiconductor) surfaces
Article Abstract:
Non-reactive and reactive surfaces are discussed with respect to their photochemical and photophysical processes. Non-reactive surfaces such as silica or alumina conditions photochemical reactions more efficiently while reactive surfaces are directly involved in the absorption of incident photon. Parameters that affect photochemical processes on surfaces include site-specific interactions, pore-size effects, electrostatic effects, surface mobility of adsorbed molecules and redox properties.
