Formation of artificial receptors by metal-templated self-assembly
Article Abstract:
Metal templation was found to offer variable and effective approaches to the self-assembly of recognition sites. Metal ions were used as the means for self-assembling recognition sites. Metal as structural components in receptor synthesis was found advantageous because fine tuning of the dynamics of receptor assembly and disassembly is permissible, modification of the shape of templated receptor sites is allowable, and charged metals complexes contribute to the binding energy by direct interaction with polar substrates. It was also observed that certain metals can organize receptor site formation and catalyze subsequent reaction on a bound substrate.

Unconventional methods for fabricating and patterning nanostructures
Article Abstract:
The fabrication of nanostructures using high-resolution printing, embossing, molding and conformal near-field optics has been described. The manufacture of nanostructures using arrays of scanning probes or beams of neutral atoms and topographically directed etching and photolitography has also been examined. Fabrication procedures based on physical contact such as soft lithography, which allow patterning on curved surfaces using a wide range of materials and precursors have also been reviewed.
