Metal activation of enzymes in nucleic acid biochemistry
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to study the functional role of the magnesium cofactor in a number of enzyme families. The design of metal binding sites correlate with certain constraints associated with the physiological availability of the metal species. The stoichiometry of metal cofactors needed to mediate phosphate ester hydrolysis is a critical factor in mechanistic considerations. The measurement of enzyme activity as a function of solution conditions is viewed as an effective means of describing the metallobiochemistry of magnesium-dependent enzymes.

Vanadium compounds as insulin mimics
Article Abstract:
Several vanadium compounds are the subject of research because vanadium can promote glucose uptake by tissues in the same way that insulin does. Compounds of interest include inorganic vanadium salts, vanadium and hydrogen peroxide complexes, and chelated vanadium complexes.
